ABOUT

Hazel is a South African artist based in Milngavie, Glasgow. Being very interested in people, her work focuses largely on Portraiture, to which she has always been drawn. She originally trained in Printmaking, Drawing and Painting at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, and taught at the Johannesburg Art, Ballet, Drama and Music School for 5 years. While teaching there, her work, "Going Home?" 1992 (Pastel on Paper) was included in the Standard Bank Drawing Competition touring exhibition, and was subsequently purchased by the Durban Art Gallery.

On moving to Scotland with her young family in 1996, Hazel's career moved into the world of Theatre Production Arts after she trained as a Set and Costume Designer and Scenic Artist at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The recent global pandemic has meant that theatres have been severely adversely affected and Hazel has spent the long periods of lockdown re-visiting her first love of Drawing and Painting, concentrating largely on Portraiture. Hazel also teaches regular weekly Art Classes in Bearsden, Glasgow.

Hazel works in the following mediums: Oil Paint; Charcoal; Pencil; Colour Pencil; Silver Point; Mixed Media and Silkscreen Printing.
